The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) could be considered the professional version or heavy-duty edition of the typical online movie ticket service and receives the "TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award." This site is for those serious about their movies and people working in the industry—however, the average moviegoer shouldn't shy away from the IMDb experience.
This site is jam-packed with movie and TV news and information—if it has to do with Hollywood, movie stars and the big screen, you'll find it, and more, on IMDb. This service is in partnership with Fandango for their movie ticketing service, but when you go through IMDb, you'll bypass some of Fandango's unique features.
The majority of IMDb's features cater to the person who wants to be educated about movies, and they do an excellent job providing information. This site offers trailers, tons of critic and consumer reviews, movie synopses and lots more. The one piece of information that we couldn't find on the site was a description of the movie rating system and movie content information. Some of the features require you to register before you can access them. The basic registration is FREE.
You can search movies by date, theater and area and then the site uses Fandango's basic ticketing features allowing you to purchase tickets.
If these features aren't enough, IMDb offers IMDbPro that is available for $12.95 a month. Pro offers calendars of release dates, message boards for entertainment industry professionals, production charts for over 5,200 film and TV projects and more.
IMDb takes advantage of the 22 theater chains for which Fandango sells tickets. More likely than not you'll find a participating theater in your neighborhood.
IMDb goes through Fandango for ticket purchases. Each ticket is normal price plus a service fee of $1 or $1.50, depending on your geographical location
Though IMDb contains a vast library of information, the site is very well organized and you can find almost any movie fact easily. The website has a user-friendly searchbox where you can search the entire site. Click on a movie, person, date or any one of the other hundreds of links and the stats appear before your eyes.
The website offers an extensive searchable FAQs page and an online form to answer your questions. There is also a help desk, but you will have to register to use this service.
IMDb is the online encyclopedia of movies-this site has it all. If you're just looking to buy movie tickets, it might be overkill, but this website's still a great place to find the answer to that movie trivia question that you need.
*We didn't include any of those features on the matrix that are accessed through a partner site.
